What are Nasal Polyps?

Nasal polyps are grape-like, painless, noncancerous growths that arise from the lining of your sinus and nasal passages.. There can be several contributing factors as to why someone develops nasal polyps but it generally occurs from chronic inflammation. This inflammation can be caused by various factors such as allergies, chronic sinus infection, asthma and certain immune disorders.

Small nasal polyps may not cause symptoms. Larger growths or groups of nasal polyps can block your nasal passages or lead to breathing problems, a lost sense of smell and frequent infections.

Nasal polyps are most common in adults.

Experts in Nasal Polyps Treatment

Have you had sinus surgery to remove nasal polyps but they have regrown and you still suffer from recurrent polyps? Do your nasal polyps make you feel congested or experience a decreased sense of smell?

There is good news for you! Southern ENT Specialists is amoung the first in the United States to offer an innovative, non-surgical option that is clinically proven to reduce nasal obstruction and congestion: the SINUVAâ„¢ (mometasone furoate) Sinus Implant. If you have previously undergone sinus surgery and are experiencing a return of nasal polyps, you may be a candidate for SINUVA.

What is SINUVA & How Does It Work?

SINUVA can be placed during a routine office visit under topical and/or local anesthesia to numb the patient’s nose and sinuses. SINUVA is then placed in the sinus cavity through the nasal opening. The sinus implant has a 2-in-1 benefit: it is designed to open in the sinus cavity and deliver anti-inflammatory medicine directly to nasal polyps. Once SINUVA is in place, patients usually do not feel the implant. It is removed at 90 days or earlier depending on the response to treatment.
