What causes Headaches?

Headaches can be caused by many different underlying factors. One of the more common causes of headaches is sinusitis. Sinus headaches are usually caused by the building of pressure in your sinus cavity which causes pain. When sinuses become inflamed through allergies, irritation or infection, the lining of the sinus and nasal cavities swell. The swelling can lead to blocked drainage pathways. The resulting blockage can cause buildup of mucous and pressure, pushing on the lining of the sinus cavities where nerve endings are located. This pressure can cause painful headaches. Furthermore, if you suffer from migraines, sinusitis may be a trigger which activates the migraine headache, thus worsening the already painful problem. As there are many different triggers for headaches it is important that you find out what is causing your headaches. If swelling of the sinus cavity may be the cause, a CT scan can help to determine if sinusitis is the underlying problem.
